Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The present guidelines are for ENGLISH written submissions:

(1) The submission must have the following structure:

  • Title in english (if possible, in Portuguese too);
  • Abstract in English (if possible, Portuguese too);
  •  Kewords in english (if possible, in Portuguese too);
  •  References (Bibliographie used in the text).

(2)  Text format:

  • Font: NEW TIMES ROMAN 12 points;
  • Between lines: 1.5;
  • Paragraphs (first line): 0.5"/1,25 cm (using Ruler, not the TAB key);
  • The ilustrations and charts/tables are inserted in the text.

(3) The abstract should have between 100 to 200 words, with highlight of objective, research method and main conclusions.

(4) The keywords must indicate the content of the work and have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5.

 

(5) Use of photos. Submission that contain photos, personal documments and/or involve research with living people must annex as supplment document the autorization issued by the Ethic Comitte of the Institution which the author belongs;

 

(6) Submission lenght. The submission should have:

  • a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 pages (including bibliography) 
  • A4 format, with
    • Top margin  1.25" (3 cm);
    • left margin:  1.25" (3cm);
    • lower margin: 0.75" (2 cm); and
    • right margin:  0.75" (2 cm)

 

(7) Citations/Quotations should be made in the author-date system according to NBR 10520, summarized as follows. 

(7.1) Direct quotation with less than 03 (three) lines (literal transcription, ipsis litteris) must be double quoted according to the examples:

 Example 1: According to Saldanha (2008, p.9) "the growth of any science can be accompanied by the growth of its bibliography."
 
Example 2: According to Bernardes and Pereira (2011, p.18), "great urban transformations marked the beginning of the twentieth century in the city of Recife, reform plans were succeeded in order to meet the demand for modernization."

(7.2)  Direct quotation with more than 03 (three) lines, must be highlighted and formatted:

  • 4 cm left indentation,
  • Times New Roman font size 11space between single lines
  • Alignment Justified

We urge authors to avoid using direct citations, preferring the modality of indirect citations.

 

(8) References should obey the ABNT 6022 rules, which are exemplified below:

Example 1 - single authored Book:

SALDANHA, Nélson. Humanismo e história. Recife: Bagaço, 2008. 121 p.

Example 2 - Books or compendiums with three or more authors:

VILELA, Karine Gomes Falcão et al. (Org.). Obras raras e valiosas: critérios adotados pela Biblioteca da Faculdade de Direito do Recife. Recife: Ed. Universitária da UFPE, 2012. 90 p

Example 3 - Articles or papers (printed):

BERNARDES, Denis Antônio de Mendonça; PEREIRA, Juliana Melo. Quando a cidade era universitária: a geografia da Univer-cidade do Recife antes da construção da UFPE. Estudos universitários, revista de cultura, Recife, v.27, n.8, p.17-25, ago. 2011

Example 4 - Articles, paper (online, with DOI)

(8) Notes and commentaries should be made with footnotes, using TIMES NEW ROMANS, 10 points, between lines set to simple.

 

(9) Number of authors. We don´t accept submissions with more than 03 (three) authors.
