Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Contributions must be original and new, therefore it can’t be under analysis in any other journal. Otherwise, authors must justify it through “Comments to editor”.
  • The submission file must be a Word document, enabled for publishing and in compliance with Directions to the authors.
  • Authors must be aware that the article may have its formatting modified for the sake of standardization should it be selected for publishing.

Author Guidelines

Pay close attention to the guidelines below:

- The Journal will only accept just original contributions.

- Articles, Book reviews or Essays must bring an abstract as well as titles in Portuguese and in other foreign languages accepted by the Journal (English, French, Spanish or Italian).

- Articles should have between 15 and 20 pages, including references; Book reviews, Interviews and Essays, between 10 and 15 pages, including references. In these three last cases abstract will be not necessary.

- The Journal will accept writings in foreign languages (English, Spanish and French) if written by foreign researchers. These contributions must also have titles and abstracts in Portuguese.

- We provide a template for the authors. Click here to download it.

- All of these contributions should follow the rules below:

a)  The document must be submitted in .doc, .docx format or OpenDocument Format (ODF) , enabled for edition, with a maximum length of three (3) Mb;

b) Title in bold, followed by Abstract and key words;

c) Pages have to be configured in A4 (29.7 cm x 21 cm), using Arial Narrow 11, spacing 1.5, with justified text and paragraphs with indentation of 1.25 cm;

d) The long quotations (more than three lines) should have an indent of 4 cm, Arial Narrow 11 and single space;

e) Title centered in capital letters and bold; as well as the subtitles in bold, and if there are sub-captions they should be in italics;

f) Abstract in Arial Narrow 11, single spaced and limited to 10 lines, followed by a maximum of 5 keywords (please note: it is not necessary to place an abstract in Book reviews, Interview and Essays); g) Footnotes in Arial Narrow 10 and single spaced; h) References at the end of the text.

Articles based on completed or ongoing research, and which cover the following thematic areas:

  1. Social movements in the city and in the countryside: the territorialities (in the material and immaterial dimensions) of social movements in the city and in the countryside as well as those territorialities that, even “without political flags”, have the potential to go against the hegemonic processes of space geographical structuring.
  2. The Production of Space: Actors, Instruments and Contents: articles discussing the different actors, tools and contents related to the spatial production process: the spacialities, different practices and themes with regard to this process.
  3. Planning and Management, Public Policies and Citizenship: articles seeking for investigating planning and management practices referred to urban spaces, as well as to the role of public policies within their sociospatial repercussions towards the construction of citizenship.
  4. Society and Nature, Environmental Issues and Sustainable Territorial Development: discuss the contemporary environmental issue with regard to the different territories of life and existence in geographic space, in the context of the complex interrelations between society and nature, in order to contribute to reflection on concrete perspectives of socio-territorial change towards sustainability.
