Abstract

In this work, we intend to approach the ethical and social promotions of an-ger in De Ira de Seneca. In this dialogue, Seneca brings a therapeutic analy-sis for his brother Lucio Junio Galio Aniano Novato, a Roman public manconcerned with the characteristic problems of his time, which involve poli-tics, military strength, security, and human dignity. The work is divided intothree books, where Seneca will insert gradually - and non-systematically -stoic premises in the therapeutic process, such as the uselessness of the in-different. The objective here is to discuss with the interlocutor which part ofregards to Aristotleand Theofrasto is right about anger, namely, a possibilityof moderation, or instrumentalization of it since Novato is convinced thatanger   is   important   for   political   and   military   life.   Thus,   our   course   goesthrough a theoretical characterization of the emotion, an exposition of theproblems of the anger, and therapeutic strategies of its removal.
