Body materialization and abjection in Judith Butler

Abstract

Based on Judith Butler's theory of gender, the article discusses the issue of the materialization of bodies in their intersection with the concept of abjection. For this, initially, it is exposed how Butler deals with the issue of the body and its placement as a landmark in the consolidation of the idea of sexual difference. Subsequently, the dialogue carried out by Butler with the psychoanalyst Julia Kristeva from the concept of abjection is evidenced, which allows the philosopher to think about the production of human intelligibility within the framework of the sex-gender system and the proposition of a reading that enables the reformulation of the symbolic formation that makes gendered bodies possible.
