Towards an ecology of affects
And a critique of old-European theories of justice

The article argues that an adequate theory of justice for postcolonial world society must consider the diversity of realities and perspectives that articulate different moral grammars. Building on the debate around a critique of the emotions, as proposed by Filipe Campelo, it attempts to advance the idea of a shift from the Old-European theories of justice towards an ecologically-oriented theory of justice that is sensitive to different principles of justice. In this regard, the premises of universalist constructivism, such as those of a discourse theory, are also deemed insufficient. An ecologically-oriented theory of justice must be sensitive to the natural, human and epistemological environment of modern understandings of justice. This implies that, instead of abstract universal assumptions, such a theory must be reflective about its own limits and partiality, as well as for its destructive implications.
