Case study on the use of privately owned public space through placemaking

The case study analyzed the implementation of an outdoor area in a corporate building located in the city of São Paulo. Initially, the concept of Privately Owned Public Space (POPS) and placemaking was theoretically discussed from the perspective of Facility Management (FM). Subsequently, a Net Promoter Score (NPS) survey was conducted with the building's users to measure the impacts generated by the implementation of this communal area. The results indicated that minimal interventions in outdoor spaces can improve user satisfaction and help mitigate the effects of hostile architecture, which is so prevalent in São Paulo. Currently, FM is being analyzed from an urban perspective, extending beyond the internal boundaries of organizations, and positioning it as a link between micro spaces (organizations) and macro spaces (public facilities) within a complex and interconnected social network. Few Brazilian studies address FM from an urban perspective, thus this article aimed to shed light on techniques that can benefit this innovative approach.
