Ward, Secas, Método RUN, SemiáridoAbstract
The present work aimed to identify homogeneous rainfall regions in the semi-arid region of
Paraíba and to evaluate the parameters of Severity, Intensity and Duration of droughts for these areas.
For this purpose, rainfall data from 41 stations were used during the period from January 1996 to
December 2021 obtained through the Executive Agency for Water Management of the State of
Paraíba - AESA. Ward's hierarchical method was used in the process of grouping the homogeneous
groups of pluviometry followed by the application of the “RUN” method to obtain the characteristics
of the droughts in these groups. The results revealed the existence of three groups. The regions of
greatest attention in relation to the drought phenomenon correspond to group 1, located in the
mesoregion of the Sertão of Paraíba, as this had the largest area with the highest averages of severity,
averages of intensity and maximum severity when compared to the other groups and group 3, central
region of the state, it presented the maximum values band the highest averages of duration of
droughts. The methodology applied made it possible to have a prognosis of droughts in the semi-arid
region of Paraíba, in order to contribute to improvements in the management of water
resources/natural resources in the regions presented.
