Given the increase in wildfires, it is necessary to understand the factors that intensify these phenomena. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the spatio-temporal dynamics of wildfires in the Caatinga biome and their interactions with climatic and anthropogenic factors, as well as to assess the impacts of these fires on different types of vegetation. To achieve this, a spatiotemporal analysis was conducted using remote sensing data obtained from platforms such as MapBiomas and INMET. The analysis concluded that, between 1990 and 2022, the Caatinga biome experienced a deforestation of 153,761.35 km², with Caatinga Sensu Stricto being the most affected vegetation. Additionally, 149,535.02 km² were affected by fire, with the Savanna Formation representing 80% of this area. The analysis also revealed that wildfires in the Caatinga are strongly related to both climatic events and land use and occupation. Furthermore, the urgent need to develop public policies to mitigate these impacts, promote biodiversity conservation and, thus, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region is highlighted.
Keywords: Caatinga, deforestation, climatic events, wildfires, biodiversity.
