Abstract

In the face of an increasingly obscure climate scenario, this article proposes to discuss the most recent environmental issues in China, as it is one of the most relevant actors when it comes to environmental commitments. As a primary objective, it seeks to clarify  the  current  environmental  panorama  of  the  country,  from  the  impasses  and challenges to the advances found in recent administrations. To this end, this research used a qualitative analysis based on a literature review. As final considerations, it was possible to identify that China has promoted responses to the environmental crisis, mainly from structural  changes  in  its  government  towards  a  more  active  environmental  agenda  in accordance with the objectives established in the Paris Agreement. Even so, the actions taken   today   are   insufficient   to   reach   these   commitments   scheduled   for   2030. Furthermore, greater strength is needed in relation to Chinese environmental policies in order to guarantee a leading role in the matter at a global level.
