Abstract

During the period of the Civil-Military Dictatorship, more precisely in the 1970s, homosexuality was gaining prominence not only on the national scene, but throughout the world. Movements such as Gay Power and the Sexual Revolution marked a generation that was ready to break all the "taboos". In this context, the city of Belém/PA also witnessed these transformations, even with a dictatorship watching over every movement seen as "improper", "subversive" and "immoral". That said, this paper seeks to understand how lesbian women were inserted into this dictatorial society, full of transformations, through one of the media outlets of the mainstream press: A Província do Pará. And thus understand how they were represented in the pages of this newspaper from Pará, with the aim of giving a voice to a group that was so marginalized and often made invisible by society at the time.
