Abstract

Objective: to identify the profile of potential blood donors in education campaign. Method: quantitative approach descriptive and explorative study, performed during a sensitization campaign for uptake blood donors, between January and May 2011. Data collection was performed with 267 potential blood donors. Data analyzed by the Epi-Info 3.5.2 software. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UFS with CAAE-0143.0.107.000-10 approved the research. Results: 65.2% of respondents were females, 70.7% were between 18-25 years old, 78% were UFS students and 27.3% had donated blood previously. The rate of inability to donate was, as regards eating habits and repose (30.5%), contraindicated medication use (12.5%), immunization within the less than recommended time lapse (16.8%), risky sexual behavior regarding aids (17.7%). Conclusion: It is necessary to increase campaigns to motivate donors within the researched profile
