ABSTRACT
Objective: to verify the effect of two intervention programs (Food Education, olive oil consumption) on the lipid profile of climacteric women. Method: A randomized clinical study with 19 women divided into group A, who received intervention from Food and Nutrition Education, plus olive oil consumption and group B, intervention from Food and Nutrition Education for a period of three months. The study compared the effect of the two interventions. Results: women presented general obesity status (assessment of nutritional status by body mass index, waist circumference and percentage of fat) before the intervention and, after the intervention the women in group A presented significant improvements on HDL cholesterol levels (P = 0.005) and LDL (p = 0.021). Conclusion: Food education plus olive oil supplementation were able to better the lipid profile of women with dyslipidemia in the climacteric period.
