Test on the “consumer frontier” in pandemic times

Abstract

The work entitled “The consumption frontier: cross-border relations between Foz do Iguaçu (BR) and Ciudad del Este (PY)”, defended through a Master's Dissertation in 2014, presented the concept of “consumption frontier” as the space constituted through of consumer relations on the border between Foz do Iguaçu-BR and Ciudad del Este-PY. The expressive activities aimed at consumption in that environment motivated the geographic analysis according to these precepts. In times of pandemic, especially the one faced in 2020 with the Coronavirus, a new analysis of the frontier is necessary. The closure of the border and the consequent social and economic impacts resulting from the fact, require consideration of the dynamics of this specific border area. Through the resumption of discussions already published, analysis of bibliographic references and approach to news from the media, this article aims to understand how pandemic times can modify consumption dynamics at the border. This text is an analysis under construction, produced in real time, when the pathways of the pandemic are still being established. The conclusions are therefore equally incomplete, constituting an essay.

Luana Caroline Künast Polon, Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA)

Mestre em Geografia (2014), Especialista em Neuropedagogia (2013), Especialista em Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (2018) e Graduada em Licenciatura em Geografia (2011). Professora Formadora I - Universidade Federal do Pampa - UNIPAMPA/Universidade Aberta do Brasil - UAB. Concentra seus estudos nas áreas de Geografia Humana e Ensino de Geografia. Tem experiência como Professora Universitária e da Educação Básica, Orientadora e Supervisora de Estágio em Licenciatura, Orientadora do Plano de Desenvolvimento da Escola - PDE, e ainda como Redatora de Conteúdos para sites de Educação. Integrante dos grupos de pesquisa Cultura, Fronteira e Desenvolvimento Regional e Engeo - Ensino e Práticas de Geografia.
