O USO DE TAXAS DE TURBIDEZ DA BACIA DO ALTO RIO DAS VELHAS – QUADRILÁTERO FERRÍFERO/MG – COMO INDICADOR DE PRESSÕES HUMANAS E EROSÃO ACELERADA
Abstract
O presente trabalho visa identificar as principais áreas produtoras de sólidos em suspensão na bacia do alto Rio das Velhas, destacando atividades humanas envolvidas em processos de erosão acelerada e degradação dos cursos d’água. Coincidente com a porção interior do Quadrilátero Ferrífero, esta bacia é palco de diversos conflitos ambientais, principalmente ligados à mineração e à preservação de mananciais para o abastecimento da região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, o que demanda informações para a gestão ambiental, justificando este trabalho. Foram mapeadas fontes pontuais e difusas de poluição e erosão acelerada em seis sub-bacias e amostradas taxas de turbidez no curso d’água principal das mesmas e em seis pontos ao longo do alto Rio das Velhas. Os resultados mostram que (i) nas bacias dos rios Maracujá e Itabirito se destacam os voçorocamentos, a mineração, os usos agropastoris e o lançamento de efluentes como principais provedores de sedimentos aos rios; (ii) nas bacias dos ribeirões da Prata e Sabará a preservação de áreas verdes se refletiu numa baixa turbidez. Entretanto, este parâmetro deve ser utilizado com cautela, pois a dinâmica sedimentar atual de algumas bacias é muito influenciada pela mineração, sendo caracterizada pela abundância de carga de leito, a qual não é passível de ser constatada pela turbidez.
