Terra Mulata is a type of anthropogenic soil that presents morphological, physical and chemical changes and is related to permanent or semi-permanent agricultural practices developed during Amazonian prehistory. This work aims to characterize the morphological, physical and chemical attributes of Terra Mulata profiles and its surroundings, and thus understand the active pedogenetic processes and potentialities of this antrosol. For this, soil samples collected in three pedological profiles were used, two in the area of terra mulata (TMA1 and TMA2) and one in the adjacent area (AD), on the right bank of the Amazon River in Juruti, state of Pará. The results point out that pre-Columbian anthropogenic action resulted in different characteristics of the TMA, where the TMA1 and AD soils are similar in terms of organic matter content and low concentrations of P and Ca, while TMA2 continues with moderate nutrient content and signs of continuous use of fire in soil preparation. These studies confirm the pedogenesis of Amazonian Oxisols and show how the prolonged addition of organic matter and subsequent use of fire contributed to the formation and transformation of TMA, but if cultivated continuously, without proper management it can return to the original Oxisol condition.
