Abstract

Youth and adult education (EJA) is one of the modalities of Brazilian basic education. In this way, Geography and History are disciplines that have contents and themes that can contribute to the formation of a better society. This manuscript has the general objective: to understand the role of Geography and History in youth and adult education (EJA) focused on citizenship; therefore, the research is based on a qualitative, bibliographical approach. The scientific procedures adopted were the reading and reflection of articles, books, laws and educational norms, both in the field of Geography, History and Education. The conclusions detected were the following: the work leads to the understanding that Geography and History in youth and adult education (EJA) play a key role in the formation of more critical and reflective subjects in relation to the formation of geographic space in a historical perspective , since students will study contents that are related to their lives, thus leading the exercise of citizenship in an increasingly complex contemporary society. It was understood that EJA is present in the 1996 LDBEN as a right for young people and adults who were unable to complete their studies, in addition to guaranteeing other rights for these subjects and establishing guidelines for the operation of this modality in public basic education networks and systems in the country. Brazil. The school and teachers in EJA have an essential mediating role for this teaching modality to fulfill its functions. However, initial training and continuing training need to pay more attention to EJA, aiming to better appropriate teachers of different disciplines in relation to this type of education that they will be able to teach.
