Abstract

This article addresses the theory of action and systems theory in the works of Talcott Parsons and Jürgen Habermas. It is divided in two main parts: the first presents the key stages  of  Parsons’  theoretical  evolution  and  the  second  deals  with  the  critical reconstruction  of  the  Parsonian  theory  by  Habermas.  Based  on  a  presentation  of Parsons’ theory, the primary objective of this article is to highlight how this author’s theoretical legacy reverberates in contemporary social theory, as exemplified in the critical appropriation of the Parsonian proposal by Habermas’ theory of communicative action.

Ricardo Pagliuso Regatieri

É Professor Adjunto no Departamento de Sociologia da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Possui graduação em Ciências Sociais, mestrado em Sociologia e doutorado em Sociologia pela Universidade de São Paulo. Realizou período de doutorado sanduíche na Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt. Foi pesquisador visitante e Research Professor na Korea University em Seul. Foi docente na Graduate School of International Studies da Korea University e na Graduate School da Hankuk University of Foreign Studies de Seul. Seus interesses de pesquisa se concentram nas seguintes áreas: teoria sociológica, teoria crítica, história das ideias, sociologia comparativa, civilizational analysis e modernidade.
