EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: EVALUATION OF THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF UNDERGRADUATE ACCOUNTING STUDENTS

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the extracurricular activities performed by undergraduate Accounting students contribute to their academic and professional background. An exploratory study with students from Federal University of Santa Catarina was conducted. The study reveals that the activities undertaken by students in trainee programs contribute to their academic and professional backgrounds, since they are directly related to the activity of the accounting profession. The study also reveals that the students re aware of the importance of this extracurricular activity to their academic and professional training. Even thought the evidences that trainees are performing a greater amount of activities than those defined in their temporary job-training contract, with would be a lack of commitment by the institutions that offer such programs, 90% of the students have the perception that their training activities are in line with what was agreed in the contract.
