Résumé

Resumo: O artigo define “ficções morais” como crenças sobre o comportamento moral que permanecem operacionais na cultura apesar de evidência contrária. Dois exemplos são discutidos: a) o elogio da solidão na ética do Romantismo versus a caracterização do sentimento de solidão pela neurociência social, b) a defesa da transitoriedade por autores do Transcendentalismo Americano versus a ilusão do fim da história tal como descrita na psicologia social. As ficções morais são entendidas como expressão da autonomia da moralidade.

Abstract:The article defines "moral fictions" as beliefs about moral behavior that remain operational in culture despite contrary evidence. Two examples are discussed: a) the praise of solitude in the ethics of Romanticism versus the characterization of loneliness by social neuroscience, b) the defense of transitoriness by authors of American Transcendentalism versus the "end of history illusion" as described in social psychology. The moral fictions are understood as an expression of the autonomy of morality.
