Although corporate risk management has entered the Brazilian public sector as a legal demand, the way it is implemented in institutions is not empirically explored. This study aims to analyze the nature and dynamics of risk management practices in the case of Colégio Pedro II, through a conceptual basis aimed at analyzing risk rationality, especially in uncertainty and technologies. To this end, a case study research with a qualitative approach, of a descriptive and exploratory nature, was carried out through participant observation, institutional documents and semi-structured changes. For an analysis of the results, the content analysis method was used. The results show that the link between risk management and strategic planning, the en- gagement of senior management, and integration between the actors involved interfere in the attempt to create risk management aimed at improving institutional performance.
