Abstract

Fatphobia is violence that takes away the right of fat people to have dignity and live their lives like any other person, in addition to denying accessibility to these bodies in several aspects. This stigmatization produces multiple consequences, including a series of emotional, physical, structural, and psychological issues. It is important to highlight that the exclusion of fat people is a social and political, public health issue and not an individual problem. Which lives matter? @malujimenez_ philosopher, research professor with a PhD in Contemporary Culture, develops research, consultancy and courses aimed at building practices, policies and programs to value and promote diversity as a strategic resource for the development of institutions and society. Researcher funded by CNPQ, postdoctoral in the EICOS Postgraduate Program in Psychosociology at UFRJ, she participates in the Network of Observatories of Public Policies, Care and Health Education UFRJ / UFMG. She is part of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Diversity and Inclusion in Management at PUC/Minas and the Postgraduate in Communication at the State University of Londrina-UEL. She is part of the group -Group of Studies and Actions in Philosophy and Education at the Faculty of Education – UFMG and the Research Network of Latin American bodies. President of Instituto Diversas, a feminist organization that works to ensure that the right to life and good living is guaranteed to all people, in their bodily singularities and in their varied ways of living, thinking, expressing themselves and loving. It develops projects, programs and educational actions aimed at deconstructing, in the most diverse environments, prejudiced logics – such as fatphobia, racism, machismo, homophobia and transphobia – that oppress women and other social majorities whose rights are historically denied. She is one of the pioneers in anti-fat phobia research and activism in Brazil, being among the founders and coordinators of the main research networks on the subject in the country. Organizer of the 1st Fat Research Congress in Brazil. She is the author of a reference work on the subject: the book “Lute Como Uma Gorda”, from 2020, which has just reached its second edition, and the main author of the children's book Lute como uma gordinha.
