Abstract

This article is the report of a qualitative research, which was developed with the main objective of elaborating, developing and analyzing a didactic sequence, involving the content of quadratic function. For this, it was adapted and used an activity described in the chapter referring to this content in the “Livro Aberto da Matemática” about the height of the “Arco da Apoteose”. The sequence was applied to the students of the 1st year of high school in a private school in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul in a remote way, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Problem Resolution methodology was adapted for that moment. Analyzing the students' answers, we can infer that the concepts about the quadratic function have not yet been well understood. Students  have  difficulties  to  move  between  algebric  and  graphical  records  of  the  quadratic function as well as to understand the meaning of the function parameters. Thus, there is a need to work on these concepts in different problems and the transition of these records, so that students can improve their understanding of these concepts.
