Abstract

Purpose: To promote an analysis of the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) theory from a postmodern perspective. The scope of the investigation encompasses critical reflections and implications that arise from the adoption of this approach within the organizational context.

Design/methodology/approach: The employed research method is of a descriptive qualitative nature, which is suited to examine the interaction between society and technology through the postmodern lens and, consequently, delineate the resulting consequences for organizations.

Research, Practical & Social implications: The findings point to the preeminence of a postmodern interpretation as a catalyst for the relationship between society and technology, necessitating the incorporation of cultural and political elements into the scope of SCOT, while discussing the implications of these reflections in the organizational context.

Originality/value: The originality of this study is rooted in its expansion of analytical horizons concerning the social construction of technology, fostering a more robust and contextually sensitive theory for the organizational realm.
