Focus and Scope

EM TEIA – Ibero-American Journal of Mathematics and Technological Education (ISSN 2177-9309) is a scientific publication platform that accepts articles presenting completed research or essays in the fields of Mathematics Education and Technologies in Education, as well as in related areas. Submissions must be original and not previously published in another journal.

Manuscripts may be submitted in Portuguese or English.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted for publication undergo an initial assessment by members of the journal’s editorial board. Submitted articles are forwarded to two reviewers for evaluation.

The assignment of articles to reviewers is at the discretion of the editors, taking into account the topic and approach of the manuscript, the specific technical expertise of the consulting members, and the absence of conflicts of interest.

All manuscripts are evaluated in a double-blind peer review process. In case of divergent opinions between the two reviewers, the article will be sent to a third reviewer.

The double-blind peer review process may result in one of four outcomes:

  • Acceptance (publication as submitted);
  • Acceptance with mandatory revisions, requiring the revised version to be reviewed by the editor and/or, if deemed necessary, by the original reviewers;
  • Rejection with resubmission invitation, allowing authors to submit a new version after addressing the required changes, initiating a new evaluation process;
  • Rejection (not approved for publication).

“Acceptance with minor revisions” implies that the final version will be reviewed by the editor and/or the original reviewers. The “resubmission after major revisions” recommendation requires, if resubmitted, that the article enter a new review cycle.

Reviewers have access to anonymized manuscripts and follow these evaluation guidelines:

  • Is the topic relevant to Mathematics Education or Technological Education?
  • Is the research question/objective clearly stated?
  • Is the theoretical framework appropriate and aligned with the research question?
  • Does the literature review include research published within the last five years?
  • Are the methodology and research procedures clearly described and defined?
  • Is there coherence between the objectives, data analysis, and results?
  • Do the conclusions reflect what was presented in the objectives, methodology, and results?
  • Does the manuscript demonstrate clarity, consistency, fluency, cohesion, coherence, and proper language use, including spelling, punctuation, and grammatical agreement?

After the review process is concluded, the editors are responsible for registering and communicating the final decision to the authors. If revisions are required, a deadline will be set for submission of the final version.

Publication Frequency

As of 2025, EM TEIA has adopted a continuous publication model, aiming to expedite the dissemination of approved articles. Articles are published as soon as they complete the editorial process, forming a single annual volume/issue. The full table of contents is consolidated and published in December each year. Thematic issues or special editions will be released in separate issues.

Open Access Policy

EM TEIA is an Open Access journal, meaning all content is freely and immediately available at no cost to users or their institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, as well as to index them or use them for any other lawful purpose, without prior permission from the publisher or the authors, provided that the Creative Commons license adopted by the journal is respected.

Editorial Policy on Ethics

EM TEIA conducts its editorial activities based on national and international ethical standards, in accordance with Brazilian Law No. 14.874, of May 28, 2024. It adopts the definition of scientific misconduct established by the Office of Research Integrity (ORI)—including data fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism—and follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for addressing allegations or suspicions of misconduct. It also aligns with the principles of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial originality check using the Plagiarism Checker tool. Texts with a similarity index above 30%, including self-citations, will be reviewed by the editorial team, and the authors will be informed of the decision. EM TEIA does not consider the use of excerpts from master’s dissertations or doctoral theses to constitute self-plagiarism.

Research involving human beings or animals must be accompanied by a favorable opinion issued by a Research Ethics Committee or a statement from the authors affirming that all ethical procedures were followed throughout the research. To streamline the editorial process, this declaration must be submitted after the article is accepted, along with proof of language editing. A declaration template is available in both Portuguese and English.

Guidelines on the Use of Generative AI Tools

The editorial policy of EM TEIA regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scientific production follows the guidelines set by the National Research Ethics Commission (CONEP).

The use of generative AI must be strictly complementary to the authors' intellectual contribution, which must represent at least 70% of the final manuscript content. Authors are fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the submitted content. Generative AI tools are to be used solely for technical support and should not be considered primary sources of ideas, arguments, or results. Authors must carefully verify the accuracy and coherence of any content generated with AI assistance, taking into account its technical limitations and potential biases.

In cases where generative AI tools are used, authors must submit a declaration including: the name and version of the tool; the purpose of its use (e.g., grammar review, text organization, abstract generation); and an estimate of the percentage of content generated or modified by the tool. A template for this declaration is available in both Portuguese and English.
