Abstract

The objective of this research is to examine the involvement of Timberland Investment Management Organizations (TIMOs), specialized entities engaged in land administration for forestry purposes and utilizing funds from the financial market, in order to explore the correlation between the financialization of farming and the agrarian issue. Numerous scholars, including Fairbairn (2014), argue that agricultural lands have evolved into a distinct category of financial investments due to a more comprehensive financialization of the overall economy. The mobilization of financial resources for land procurement occurs through diverse mechanisms and instruments, which are elaborated upon in this study. Information on TIMOs was gathered from annual reports and portfolios accessible on their websites or specialized platforms dedicated to the forestry sector or economic subjects. Within the confines of this study, we observe an increasing financialization of the environment, a trend that is reinforced by organizations like TIMOs, bridging the divide between institutional investors and the marketplace for land and "forest" assets.
