Abstract

1 Pierre Klossowski in his Les Lois de l'hospitalité announces the power of curiosity: a hostess never surrenders to suspicion or envy because she is curious. Curiosity is what drives hospitality. 2 Even while invisible, art has a destiny. It is meant to meet someone even if it doesn't speak its name. It enjoys the same kind of fate (and of destination) as doors, entrances, pension houses. She is an organ of the senses that is not quite ready. She is a form of receptivity. Receptivity is hospitality. 3. Art is itself the name of a hotel. It houses the unreasonable - paintings that are not for oratories or laboratories, sculptures that are not chairs, performances that are not liturgies, texts that are not theses, installations that are not devices. They house the deviations of the oratory and laboratory paintings, the deviations of the sculptures that are chairs, the deviations of the performances that are liturgies, the deviations of the texts that are theses and the deviations of the installations that are devices. From everywhere may come the artist. Any saint or devil could find themselves mingling with art. 4 Hospitality is of the same nature of request and forgiveness - there is nothing compulsory about hosting someone, responding to a request or forgiving - Klossowski says: hospitality is accidental for those who host but it is essential for the nomad, or the foreigner (or the needy or the regretful). 5 Art reaches intensity when it becomes imperceptible.
