Equality beyond rights: intersectionality and decoloniality in women's claims for justice

Abstract

This paper aims to increase discussions on equal rights based on the configuration of subordinated social groups in our society, focusing on women and the intercrossing between the oppression systems that affect them. Even in democratic societies, individuals belonging to oppressed social groups present structurally precarious lives since they are subjected to forms of exploitation and domination. Ecofeminist approaches, as they use intersectionality to understand the functioning of the domination logic, and the decolonial thinking, which reflects on the existential conditions of subjects located in the Global South from the modern colonial system, help to deepen the comprehension of the limits of the rights strategy to overcome systems of oppression. A social reconfiguration is claimed based upon recognition of interdependencies among forms of life, with emphasis on different women subjectivities, to build a society that prioritizes care practices and sustains all concrete lives.
