In this essay, I intend to examine Judith Butler's ideas about law. The task is not trivial, since the philosopher wrote a lot about ethics and politics, but did not developed in details her ideas about the juridical field. I will try to organize her arguments systematically by proposing three figures in which the law is presented: power, survival and transformation. Considering that, since the beginning of her academic trajectory, Butler highlights the ambivalences of the juridical field; I will not define these three figures in a static mode; I will rather, reconstruct them based on emphases on certain roles that law may play in different contexts. I will try to show, in the end, that certain juridical norms can have a peculiar relationship with ethics, they ensure the right to question, including to contest and potentially undo the law itself.
