Putting June 2013 into perspective. An intersection between the critique of effects and urban studies

Abstract

Understanding the June 2013 Riots in Brazil continues to be, even a decade later, a task of imprecise conclusions. It is noted that there is an insufficiency in discussing them based on the established terms of sociological analyses, with new fronts being necessary. Thus, this work seeks to formulate hypotheses, based on a reading by Filipe Campello, which allows us to deepen the analysis of Junho in the perceptual, linguistic and historical aspects of that collective experience. Campello’s critique thinks about affect, bringing it back to epistemology, and according to its implications in political philosophy, allowing us to rehearse a critique of the urban produced by planning, based on the intersection between urban planning and subjectivity. The first topic brings the concept of affection that interests this critique, moving it from the moral and private sphere to treat it as an element of the problem of social justice. The second topic addresses methodological assumptions raised by the author, intersecting the field of affections with social and urban theory. The third topic, finally, provides an analysis of the June 2013 Uprisings, presenting methodological and analytical hypotheses. In view of the analyses, the validity of the critique of affections from the perspective of the social production of space is noted, making it possible to discuss the affective dispositions subscribed to in the spectrum of struggles.
