Abstract

This article aims to discuss the educational practices in public school occupations in the years of 2015 and 2016. Regarding the school occupation movement, we aim to highlight the contributions of Gramscian doctrine in the actions undertaken by young occupants. It is necessary to emphasize that this wave formed by young students was embodied, above all, thanks to the need of reaction over neoliberal-biased actions taken by state and federal governments. In this scenario, this article addresses how education is a key part of another hegemony, so students' insurgency and rebellion are ideal components to challenge dominant ideologies and common sense in force. The occupants used strategies fueled by strong activism and massive engagement, with the aim of decolonizing the school and its space. This text also considers the relationship established between the June 2013 days and the occupation movement, since both have young people and their dissatisfactions as a call for mobilization. Through the “disinterested” school, “praxis” and Gramsci, this text justifies the revolutionary and paradigmatic character of the movement to occupy public schools, which occurred between 2015 and 2016.
