Offshore wind energy has gained global prominence due to the higher intensity of maritime winds compared to terrestrial winds, increasing the efficiency of wind farms. This study assesses the wind profile in the southern coastal region of Bahia, extending from the municipalities of Ilhéus to Mucuri, to estimate the average offshore wind speeds using the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) model. The method involved statistical analyses with reanalysis data from ERA5 (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis v5) and observations from Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), including Pearson correlation, repeated measures ANOVA, and Taylor Diagrams to validate WRF data. The WRF model validation indicated good correspondence with observational data, although minor discrepancies were observed. Results showed significant seasonal variations, with stronger winds in winter, especially between latitudes 17.5°S to 18.5°S. Mean wind speeds at 100 meters ranged from 3.5 to 4.5 m/s, and at 150 meters, from 4.5 to 5.5 m/s, with peaks up to 6.5 m/s. It is concluded that the region has significant potential for offshore wind energy generation at heights above 100 meters. Simulations with the WRF model, validated with observational data, provide a solid foundation for planning wind energy projects in the region.
