Abstract

This essay presents a debate about the position of anthropology within the debates on the conception of science, a legacy of modernity. As the main methodology applied in anthropological studies, ethnography is at the heart of the discussion, since, since the first forays - mainly from the consolidation of participant observation as the main way of doing ethnographic work - it has established itself as the main empirical bias of anthropological praxis and the primary instance of training male and female anthropologists throughout the history of the discipline.
