Vivência musical e ativismo: a atuação política do Coletivo de mulheres indígenas “As Karuana”

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the political aspects of the musical experience of the Karuana Indigenous Women's Collective, from Alter do Chão. In this production, the methodological procedure adopted was bibliographical and ethnomusicological research. The group seeks to strengthen the struggle and female protagonism within their territories, with music being understood as the corollary of their various actions, which confront the anti-politics carried out around indigenous rights and the processes of violations of their territories. The Karuana's music-making and political inclinations are based on ancestry and indigenous and female narratives that bring new perspectives to the social status quo, being strong artistic and political experiences of time and place. The emergence of an indigenous and female musical group that manages to become a cultural and ethnic reference is representative not only for Alter do Chão but also for the country's popular cultural scene.
