This article examines the political trajectory of the Pernambuco intellectual Mauro Mota and his maneuvers during the military regime to secure a place at the Brazilian Academy of Letters. A graduate of the Faculty of Law of Recife, Mauro was an influential journalist in the State, with work experience at the newspapers Diário da Manhã, where he began his career, and Diário de Pernambuco, the latter distinguished by a literary supplement edited by him in the 1940s and 1950s, which helped reveal writers and talents within his circle. This study explores Mauro Mota's trajectory and his political connections during significant moments of recent history and his professional path. Our sources include newspaper articles, accounts from intellectuals of the period, and correspondence exchanged by him during his campaign to secure a place at the Academy, achieved on January 9, 1970.
