A historiografia cuneiforme e a tese do “Sattelzeit”: reflexões sobre a consciência da historicidade na antiga Mesopotâmia.

Resumo

Produziu-se na Mesopotâmia um vasto corpus literário que inclui crônicas, anais, presságios, inscrições reais, listas de reis e lamentos pela cidade. Alguns historiadores e assiriólogos consideram que, dentre o corpus literário e gêneros mencionados, é possível encontrar também historiografia. A principal objeção a esta hipótese reside na tese do Sattelzeit, que propõe a consciência da historicidade como uma conquista da modernidade e que a história pré-moderna seria caracterizada somente pela história exemplar, historia magistra vitae. Este trabalho visa, a partir de revisão bibliográfica exploratória e análise documental, problematizar a referida tese alemã e sugerir alguns caminhos para a questão: havia consciência histórica e historiografia na Mesopotâmia? Conclui-se, provisoriamente, que os povos mesopotâmicos possuíam consciência histórica e que havia historiografia na Mesopotâmia, enquanto escrita da história, embora indissociável de outros gêneros nas mesmas composições textuais.
