Quality of life of non-medical resident professionals

Objective: to evaluate the quality of life of non-medical resident professionals of the School of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto/SP. Methodology: populational study, cross-sectional with 89 non-medical resident professionals (55 aprimorandos and 34 aperfeiçoandos). Data collection occurred from November 2008 to January 2009, using the WHOQOL-100 , an instrument of the World Health Organization, preceded by some sociodemographic data. The professionals were approached individually by the researchers received a consent form and questionnaire to respond within a week, being paid after the deadline. The internal consistency of the WHOQOL-100 was assessed by Cronbach alpha scores and calculations were performed according to the statistical model provided by the WHOQOL Group. This study was submitted to the Ethics Committee in Research of the Faculty of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto, under Protocol No. 1543/2008 and approved on March 24, 2008 with Opinion No. 064/2008. Results: 76 participated in the study (52 (68.42%) aprimorandos and 24 (31.58%) aperfeiçoandos). There was a low intern consistence in the domain level of independence (α = 0.48 and 0.54 for aprimorandos and aperfeiçoandos respectively), and in the social relationship domain for the non-medical resident professionals (α = 0.68). Considering respectively aprimorandos and aperfeiçoandos, presented higher average scores were: independence level (75.03 / 82.29); spiritual/religion aspects (77.76 / 83.59) and social relationship (69.79 / 71.18) domains; the lower scores were for the psychological (61.37 / 66.87), environmental (59.15 / 58.93) and physical (55.73 / 61.72) domains. Conclusions: the professionals were satisfied with their life quality; life and health; presented an adequate level of independence and good spiritual/religious structure. There was a commitment of sexual life and daily life activities, furthermore on coping with difficulties of stressful situations.
