The objective of this article is to analyze how the field, in its subjects and socio-spatial issues inherent to it are addressed in the teaching of Geography for the early years of Elementary School through textbooks distributed by the National Program of Book and Didactic Material (PNLD). To do so, we analyzed texts and images from the book of the 4th year of elementary school that make up one of the two collections of the PNLD 2019-2022 used by the schools of the municipal network of the municipality in which the research was developed. From this analysis it was possible to verify that, in this material, the way the field is presented limits it to the idea of a business space and/ or subordinated to the needs and interests of urban dynamics, with emphasis on the economic aspects of production. On the other hand, social, cultural and environmental aspects are mentioned superficially, which can compromise the reading and understanding of what the field is for students, especially those who do not know it. In this way, we highlight the importance of teacher mediation in the problematization of the discussions presented by the didactic materials with a view to expanding students' thinking about the various themes studied. Specifically on the field, discussions can contribute to think of it as a place of life and diversity of subjects and relationships.
