The construction of female scientific representation in Recife

Women professors contributed to the consolidation of the DCG-UFPE not only in academic issues, but also in the development of gender representativities in scientific production environments. In this sense, the present research marks who were these women professors who joined the Department of Geographical Sciences at the Federal University of Pernambuco (1960-1990) and what were the gender issues experienced in this period. We also sought to understand from which scenarios these women built themselves as professional geographers and academic professors, as well as in which ways these women contributed to the production of geographic studies in Pernambuco. The objectives were met through the research of documents, libraries and interviews. In this way, the presence of female professors was observed as protagonists and precursors of spaces for research and academic formation, being the expression of the evolution of the representativity between genders in the labor market. To contextualize these events, we recall the difficulties faced by them and their students in the years 1960-1990 in the production of geographic sciences and how their productions contributed to the production of geography produced in Pernambuco.
