Imagined brazil: archive, documents and narratives in the artistic work of Rosângela Rennó

Abstract

This text presents an exercise in imagining a country, Brazil. Search, through the essay, to rediscover a narrative that starts from the works, archives and speeches of the artist Rosângela Rennó. The narrative addresses the transformations that occurred in this imagined space after being invaded, explored and violated, also problematizing the memory erasure strategies, in the forms of documentation of this history and its citizens, perpetrated repeatedly by governments and their necropolitics. It highlights the participation of art in rereading history against the
grain, exposing the value of memory and the document in this process. The archives, searched to build this text, allowed me to draw a parallel between the real and the imagined, between the past and the present, and also to suggest possible ways to continue the narrative in the future.
