Based on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of critical discourse analysis (Fairclough 2001, 2003) and Halliday e Matthiessen’s Systemic-functional linguistics, this article aims to demonstrate which linguistics strategies were used by Veja magazine in the construction of the social image of the former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. For this, we use as a corpus reporting “Crazy about a war”. The result of this analysis shows that the magazine sustains a discourse against Chávez, constructing an image of an authoritarian, personalist president and a danger that goes beyond the borders of his country.References
