Relationship between mental and mathematic models

This essay discusses about mental model and mathematical model, emphasizing some common points to both. We deal, in the context of mental model, with relations between analogy and translation. What are the mental models?Analogies of the things referred to? Or just translations? Links between “reality” and imagination, when it comes to mentalmodels, are also covered. Arethereborders–inthe mental modeling–betweenthe “real” and the imaginary? (In this text,) These issues and questions are also included in the context of the mathematical model. We seek to enhance convergence –with regard to dialogue “analogy x translation” and dialogue “reality x imagination” –between mental model and mathematical model. We stressthat,basically,mental models and mathematical models are regarded as representations. This essayconstitutes a theoretical and bibliographical study based, in terms of conception of mental models, in the French author Edgar Morin and, in terms of definition of mathematical models, in the Brazilian authors Rodney Carlos Bassanezi, Maria Salettt Biembengut and Nelson Hein.Downloads
