Abstract

This paper aims at discussing solidarity spotted in numeracy practices on labor contexts, comprehended as tactics of resistance to the de-humanizer action imposed by the production means. To support this discussion, we use of the empirical data obtained in researching with students of a Youth and Adult Education Program, of ages ranging 16 to 56 years old, who live in the rural region of Pernambuco – more precisely, in the town of Juá –, and who work in the production of denim clothing. We sought to establish a theoretical dialog between diverse fields: Adult Education and Numeracy Studies; Paulo Freire’s thinking and of Experiential Formation; Rural Education and Ethnomathematics. The methodology adopted is referenced upon an ethnographic framework which orients the procedures of fieldwork and analysis of empirical data. In this analysis, an effort has been made towards the understanding of numeracy practices as discursive practices, with their tactic and social values, as an way of thinking and living the work, the learning, and the social relations.
