Mathematics training for Libras interpreters: a thematic analysis of the I FORMAGEPAM

This article seeks to present the results of a Master's research that had as research locus the I Encontro de formação em matemática para intérpretes educacionais de Libras – I FormaGepam, an event promoted by the Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Alteridade e Educação Matemática – Gepam/ UFSC. It was the intention of the research to answer the following question: what are the potentialities of I FormaGepam, according to the participants? Therefore, the objective was to analyze, through a Thematic Analysis - TA, which are the potentialities of the I FormaGepam, according to the participants. TA is a methodology that consists of analyzing and identifying patterns within a data set in order to form themes and analyze them. For this, the answers of 42 participants in the registration and evaluation questionnaires of the event formed the research data set. During the methodological process, two themes were defined. In the analysis report of these themes it was verified, among other things, that one of the potentialities of I FormaGepam was that, from the study of some mathematical concepts explored in the event, the participants were able to choose/develop the best interpretation strategies. However, in the conclusions of the research, it is also highlighted that the mathematics teacher has an important role in the interpretation process, therefore, it becomes important that he pays attention to the language and to the discursive construction during the classes in favor of the student and the work of the educational interpreter.
