Abstract

This article presents an analysis and synthesis of a master’s thesis defended within the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education, which investigates the integration of Financial Education and the Semantic Fields Model in elementary education. The research, focused on 6th-grade students, sought to answer the guiding question: how does the integration of financial concepts into the 6th-grade curriculum of Elementary Education affect students' learning process and understanding of financial issues? Grounded in the Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC) and Romulo Lins' Semantic Fields Model, the dissertation explored students' meaning-making processes regarding financial concepts. The qualitative methodology included the application of activities in two private schools in Juiz de Fora, with a detailed analysis of students' responses to map the challenges and potentialities of the Financial Education approach in the curriculum. This article discusses the main findings of the research and presents an educational product developed because of the study, designed to support teachers in applying financial concepts, promoting critical thinking and conscious financial decision-making among students.
