The focus of this article was to analyze the referrals given by childrenin the Early Years when solving multiplication anddivision problems involving Natural Numbers. The Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC) shows that from the 2nd grade onwards, children need to learn to solve and elaborate problems. These two verbs are present in all BNCC skills that involve multiplicative field problems with Natural Numbers. The work presented here explores two problem-situations solved by students in the 5th year of elementary school. One problem contemplates an idea of simple proportion and the other an idea of multiplicative comparison, following the guidelines of Vergnaud's Theory of Conceptual Fields. Based on Polya, we bring a methodological path of reflection, which involves the analysis of data and questions present in the twoproposed problems, as well as the analysisof theverification of the solutions found. The results of the study indicated that most children were not able to solve the problems adequately, reinforcing the lack of proportionality and inverse problems in the study. The analysis suggests students' difficultyin interpreting the problems and little familiarity with checking the coherence of the answer found to the question of the problem. We conclude that it is this interpretive reading that can help the childto develop mathematical literacy, hence theneed for this work to be emphasized in the initial or continuing education of teachers.Downloads
