O presente artigo analisa o Programa Despertar criado pelo Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Rural (SENAR/FAEB). Este encontra-se alicerçado nos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCNs), que por sua vez, insere a Educação Ambiental nos currículos escolares por meio do tema transversal meio ambiente, eixo norteador do programa.Para inseriresta temática no currículo das escolas rurais do município de São Desidério Programa Despertar tem como base a metodologia Pedagogia por Projetos, porsuas práxis, proporciona a ampliação dos limites da sala de aula, por meio de situações práticas e um ensino contextualizado.Opresente trabalho analisa como os conteúdos sobre Educação Ambiental estão sendo trabalhadosno componente curricular de geografia no âmbito do Programa Despertar, bem como, a partir de que ações pedagógicas os estudantes demonstram o empoderamento das ações efetivadas. Para isso, foram realizadas observações empíricas ecoleta de informações. No presente artigo é abordado a relação das questões ambientais na perspectiva do ensino da geografia e sua aproximação aos estudos ambientais por meio da relação sociedade e natureza,apresenta-se e discute as formas de inserçãodo tema Educação Ambiental nos processos educativos nas aulas de geografia no âmbito do referido programa.
