Abstract

n the book The age of intolerance, published in 2021 by Matrix Publishing House, Thales Guaracy traces a historical panorama starting with the des-truction of the twin towers of New York City’s World Trade Center (2001), up to specific issues of the Covid-19 pandemic. The author reveals the intrigues and contradictions of the liberal economic model that fosters the current digital age and the political, social, and technological obstacles and breakthroughs that marked the end of the 20th century and shaped the first two decades of the 21st century. In 16 chapters, Guaracy aims to analyze themes that make up this scenario, which has generated evils out of its own virtues (GUARACY, 2021), and seeks to describe specificities that go back to political, economic, social and technological actions that stimu-late intolerance, relating them to many events that have taken place until then. This is an important reading for anyone interested in understanding the effects of the digital age on society and, at the same time, analyzing some significant elements that threaten democracy.
