Abstract

Blindness, José Saramago’s novel, consists of an eschatological narrative about a disease – in this case, a mysterious epidemic of white blindness – that operates a despoliation on several levels: material, moral and linguistic. Such despoliation is configured, at the same time, in the catastrophe and in the possibility of a resurgence of humanity devastated by the “white evil”.
