Sketchbook and its use in creative development

Abstract

The present work presents a didactic experience developed in the Escola de Arquitetura e Urbanismo of UFF. The monitoring project, on which the article is based, consists in the elaboration of a sketchbook and in the analysis of the practice of sketching in the creative development of the students of the class Graphic Expression. The sketchbook is relevant in many professions, especially in architecture. This article outlines several ways to get a notebook. In sequence, it presents the division of three categories of drawing that have more consequence in the representations of the architects: drawings of human figure, vegetation and architecture. Each category is discussed as to its usefulness in representations and related sketching techniques. Following, there are samples of sketches of some renowned architects and students of the class. The analysis of the practice of sketching in the development of the students was made from the distribution of notebooks made by the monitor and application of the Exercises of the Diagramming Handbook elaborated by Matheus Freire Bastos, also monitor in the year of 2013. These exercises are related to the theme of the class, therefore they serve as heating tool for the main activity applied in the day.
