The development of remote sensing algorithms for the mapping of hydrological variables has grown in the last decade, leading to reliable estimations of evapotranspiration and soil moisture. However, these technologies have not been used to their full potential in connection with water resource management in Brazil. The aim of the present article is to discuss the potentials, limitations and challenges involved in the utilization of information derived from thermal remote sensing in the management of water resources..
Keywords: evapotranspiration, irrigation, satellite, hydrology.
